Chapter 8

“I hate him.”

Patsy rolled her blue eyes and patted Evan on the shoulder. “You’re in love.”

Evan furrowed his brow at her. “The hell you say.”

“I know you and I have joked off and on about the whole gay thing, but honestly, Evan. You’re gay. Not only are you gay, but you are in love with the one man I thought was the biggest man whore in the world. After what you’ve just told me, I’m as shocked as you to admit that Bobby Duke is as gay as you are. Are you both in denial, and it just sort of happened, or what? I want all the dirty details. Gay men are hot.”

Evan shook his head. It took balls for him to finally tell her the truth, and now he didn’t know if should have said anything at all. “It didn’t just sort of happen. He sought me out. He used me, Patsy.”

“Damn,” she muttered and shook her head. “I don’t want to, but I do hate him, too.” She looked up and sighed. “I really don’t want to hate him, but what a douche. Look at him, walking around like fucking my best friend gives him the right to be nice to everyone. Are you sure we have to hate him?”

Evan followed her gaze and clenched his jaw when he spotted Bobby Duke walk into the store. It hurt to even look at him. The memories of what they’d shared together, of what Evan had given him, echoed through his heart. He blinked to clear his mind and turned away from the amazing view.

“Yes, Patsy. We have to hate him.”

“Damn. What a waste. We could have been something, you know.”

“I doubt it.” Evan glanced at Bobby before resting his gaze on Patsy. “He’s not your type.”

She pushed out her hip and put her hand on his to give him a look. “I was talking about us, Evan. Man, are you thick.”

That shocked the shit out of him. “You? Me? Patsy, we’re nothing alike.”

“Yeah, and that’s because we both play for the same team.” She nodded at Bobby, her usually flirty demeanor gone. “You want me to get rid of him?”

“No,” Evan said and shook his head. As much as he hated Bobby Duke right now, he did have a job to do. “I’ll take care of it.”

“You sure? Honey, he hurt you. That is reason enough to kick his ass in my book. I’ll stick my Jimmy Choo so far up his ass he’ll have to sneeze to get it out.”

Despite his mood, he laughed at the visual from Patsy’s comment. He moved out from behind the counter. “Thanks for the offer, but I’ve got this.”

“You are more man that I thought, Evan Stewart.”

“Thank you.” I think.

He walked up behind Bobby and drew in a deep breath. At once the memories of their time together slammed into him, attacking him like a feral beast. With a step back he thrust out his chin and threw up his best defense.
